Since when do you live in this flat?
We (my partner Thomas and I) have lived in this flat since September 2022!
We moved from Paris to Amsterdam last summer, bittersweetly leaving behind our brand new flat in Asnières for a job opportunity in the Netherlands.
(this is not where we live 😂)
How did you find it? (if there is a story behind it)
We found it on Pararius, which is a Dutch version of SeLoger. There is no particular story, but the housing market in Amsterdam is crazy and we have a theory that we got the flat because the homeowner and I share the same name (Odile)!
Which Neighbourhood? Why?
Arriving in Amsterdam, everybody told us location was much less important than the flat itself (surface, light exposition, outdoor space…) Nevertheless, when we first visited our neighbourhood-to-be (in the South of Amsterdam), we thought it was too dull compared to De Pijp or Oud West! But now that we live here, we actually love it. It’s only 5 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of de Pijp. Everything we need is nearby (supermarket, post office, bakery…) And it is super quiet so we sleep like babies (a rare commodity in Paris).
Your favourite room?
Definitely our living room/kitchen. It’s a giant rectangle that is probably the size of our first flat in Paris (around 30m2). I love the bow window, the brand new kitchen with its generous counter space, the endless storage space and the chevron wooden floor! All of the furniture that we shipped from France fits in, so we didn’t have to part with any of our favourite pieces (which we had painstakingly selected or hunted in flea markets), phew. The room faces South so whenever the sun is shining (which isn’t often here), it is lovely because we get so much light:
What does “home sweet home” evoke you?
You know your home is “sweet” if you are glad/relieved to come back to it after a holiday!
Our sofa is my favourite spot to come back to. Finding the exact model that fit all of our criteria (design, color, price…) was a long, arduous quest but we found our bonheur on Made.com. The tartan plaid is from a vintage store in the middle of Bretagne, in Chatelaudren.
If you had to find three words that describes your place
Comfortable ☁️
Colourful 🌈
Chill 💆🏻♀️
If your place would be a song or a type of music, what would it be?
What is the last item you bought for your place?
A very cute vase from a shop in the neighbourhood.
Do you like to have people over? Yes or no, explain why.
Absolutely love having people over! I can spend an entire morning or afternoon cooking for my guests. There is so much happiness in seeing them enjoy the food. And we love to follow that with some games (analog or video!) Our favourites are Catan and Mario Kart. Can’t wait for the summer season to drink apéro on the balcony.
We found a LOT of vintage plates and tableware in Bretagne and in the region of Perche and love to use them.
La Mode, La Mode, La Mode:
This is a bag I bought from a second hand store based in Copenhagen, called Reseller CPH. It’s from this amazing New York-born brand called Susan Alexandra. Its sparkling colourful beads instantly put me in a good mood and whenever I go out with it, at least one person will be fascinated enough to ask to hold it.
What do you do (job/ hobbies) ?
I am lucky enough to work at an amazing advertising agency called Wieden+Kennedy. I am a strategist, which means I spend my whole day on Google Slides or Keynote ;) That’s why in my spare time I like to do something with my hands, i.e. cook, especially Chinese food. This turned into a full Instagram editorial line during lockdown in 2020, and I’ve been feeding the feed ever since!
If you are a foodie, do you have some favourite cookbooks?
I am really good at buying cookbooks and really bad at actually using them.
My sister gifted me an amazing one this Christmas: The Vegan Chinese Kitchen
The lemon pasta from the Big Mamma recipe book is delicious.
Otherwise, I tend to get my recipes from blogs and Instagram. Here is a selection:
The bible: Woks of Life
The queen: Margot Zhang
What are your top 5 activities in general:
In no particular order,
Cooking (and sharing on @audiosong)
Watching TV shows (last show watched: Boardwalk Empire)
Indoor cycling (had to say goodbye to Dynamo in Paris, and now loyal to Velo and Rocycle!)
Reading (currently reading Sur les Dents)
Playing games (recent pleasant discoveries include District Noir & Seven Wonders Duel)
